Natural stone is quarried from around the world and each piece shows unique character. The extraction site can affect color and composition, but How the stone is finished will also affect its final appearance. Some finishes can intensify natural color, others can soften the color.
Polishing is the most common and frequently used finish for internal areas. This extremely fine honing process uses polishing abrasives to create a brilliant, reflective quality. Polished surfaces add opulence to interiors and is extensively applied as wall and floor dressing, as well as countertops and in features.
A honed finish is a smooth, even, and non-reflective finish not dissimilar to an eggshell, making it ideal for indoor walls and floors. Honing is done by polishing the stone with a series of increasingly fine abrasives. With adequate lead time on appropriate materials, When compared to textured finishes, honing deepens the colour of the stone and still allows all its unique characteristics still show.
Leather finish has the same matt look of the honed finish with a slightly more textured surface. The process used to obtain a Leather finish closes the pores of the stone and thus reducing the possibility of staining and increasing the overall performance of the work surface.
An antique finish can be defined as a brush, slightly textured finished with a dull appearance. Antique finish replicates a distressed or aged appearance on the stone surface and will vary depending upon the stone type selected.
An acid-washed finish shows fewer scratches and is much more rustic in appearance than a honed finish. Most stones can be acid-washed but the most common are marble and limestone. Acid washing is also a way to soften the shine on granite.
